Scheduling supports rest and meal breaks

Feb, 1 2026
We've updated our Shift Scheduling feature to includes support for rest and meal breaks. With this enhancement you can define meal and rest breaks right inside each scheduled shift so overtime alerts and notifications stay precise and compliant.

Smarter shift setup

  • Add breaks directly on the Add shift and Edit shift modals, with a simple “Add a break” option that reveals break details.
  • Choose break type (Meal or Rest) and whether it is paid or unpaid according to your existing time clock policies.
  • Optionally set a break start time to give employees and managers clear expectations for the day.

Overtime that reflects unpaid breaks

  • Overtime calculations now respect scheduled unpaid breaks, so a full week of 8:30–5:00 shifts with a 30-minute unpaid break no longer triggers inaccurate OT alerts.
  • This reduces noise in your overtime warnings and helps you focus only on true compliance risks.

Helpful break reminders for employees

  • When a scheduled break time arrives, employees who are clocked in receive a mobile push notification reminding them to take the correct type and length of break.
  • No email is sent, keeping the reminder timely, targeted, and easy to act on.
If your organization does not use breaks in any time clocks, the break options stay hidden so your shift experience remains clean and uncluttered.
