HR Maverick

Evanmarie Zimmerman, SHRM-CP

Evanmarie is an HR Supervisor in the healthcare field. The company she works for serves over 1,000 employees with a strong focus on COVID-19. With COVID numbers decreasing significantly, the focus of the company is restructuring and reorganization. This includes new and updated policies, procedures, organizational charts, and staying in compliance with all 50 states at once. While Evanmarie isn’t getting notified on the latest Form I-9 update as soon as the latest one was implemented and cast out to her staff, she enjoyed trying new restaurants, wines, and exploring the outdoors.

What words of advice and encouragement would you give to someone just starting out in HR?

For those just getting started in HR, I highly recommend just being open to growth. This industry has so many updates and extraordinary people willing to help and grow themselves. Ask as many questions as you can, and never have the mindset of knowing it all.

Reneging

Perhaps you’ve had this happen to you: a candidate spends many hours convincing you that they are dependable, reliable, and exactly what you are looking for, and then leaves you and your organization high and dry when you offer them the position. This is reneging, and we must understand why it happens in order to prevent it and respond appropriately.
