Perhaps you’ve had this happen to you: a candidate spends many hours convincing you that they are dependable, reliable, and exactly what you are looking for, and then leaves you and your organization high and dry when you offer them the position. What words of advice and encouragement would you give to someone just starting out in HR?
Be yourself and approach situations from a “human” perspective. As HR professionals we can get lost in the business aspects of our roles and by bringing our full selves to work and remembering we’re all people, it will help drive your career further and allow you to build the trust of leaders that’s necessary to our jobs. Agility and resilience are two of the best characteristics you can have when coming to an HR role. We work within the “grey” everyday to help business leaders navigate the unknown.
