HR Maverick

Alan Calderon, MBA

Alan has been in his current HR role for less than a year, but his studies in psychology and business management (OBHR) and his work experience have led him to his mission to help his organization’s people thrive, strengthen our culture and identity, and work to become a valued resource for the leadership team. He loves the challenges he’s presented every day and looks forward to contributing and learning from all of you.

What words of advice and encouragement would you give to someone just starting out in HR?

Be prepared for the many times when you will feel unprepared or won’t have the answers. This will be an ongoing challenge but will push you to find resources, often outside of your organization or current network. You will be challenged to be resourceful in ways you may not have been before. My primary goal is to help find solutions and to be a servant leader.

Reneging

Perhaps you’ve had this happen to you: a candidate spends many hours convincing you that they are dependable, reliable, and exactly what you are looking for, and then leaves you and your organization high and dry when you offer them the position. This is reneging, and we must understand why it happens in order to prevent it and respond appropriately.
