Love is in the air and so is another way to spruce up your company culture.
Q1 is a little dry when it comes to holidays. Valentine’s Day is the first holiday of the year so make sure you take advantage of it. At Eddy, we love to let our inner kid shine by competing in a Valentine’s Day Box competition.
Remember how back in grade school you made Valentine’s Day boxes for your classmates to put valentines in? Well, we do the same thing at Eddy, but we offer cash prizes for the best boxes!
We give our employees 14 days to start prepping their Valentine’s Day boxes. There are two things you need to do in order to get people to actually participate.
- First, tell everybody what the prizes are, (we do 1st place $50, 2nd and 3rd $25) and
- Second, send pictures of previous years boxes for ideas and motivation.
Employees have the choice to bring Valentine’s for their co-workers, but Eddy always provides a Valentine for each employee.
This Valentine can be simple. Pinterest has millions of ideas if you’re looking for something creative. You could gift a box of brownies with a card saying “Aiming for Brownie Points,” or get some Stance socks that say, “You knock my socks off.” Cake bites from Sweet Tooth Fairy are also always a winner.
On Valentines Day put all the boxes on a table in a central location of your office so people can vote on their favorites throughout the day. We begin voting at lunchtime and end voting around 3:00 pm to announce the winners.
Let each employee choose their 1st, 2nd, and 3rd choices, tally up the scores and send a picture of the winners with their boxes to everyone in the company.
It’s love day, so have fun, keep it simple, and provide competition. If you do, your people will love it and enjoy work more.
