Nicole Martin cut her teeth in social work, before she was "voluntold" to do HR in the human services sector. Turns out, it was a great assignment that balanced her love of people with her (questionable) enthusiasm for compliance and strategy. Since, Nicole transitioned into the realm of aerospace and defense, where she gets to lead all aspects of HR strategy and solve people, compliance, and strategy puzzles along the way.
What words of advice and encouragement would you give to someone just starting out in HR?
We're all pretty intuitive, insightful people-y people. It's easy to assume that we know exactly how someone will respond to a situation, conflict, solution, etc.; but don't let that color your judgement. Be open, and remember that even the best of us don't always perfectly align our intent with our impact.
