JP is a new but passionate HR pro who looks at the field as a wide open world of knowledge. They've worked in several industries but found themselves most at home in the tech world. Ultimately within the HR and People world they want to help people understand that work around diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging are inherently "political" because of they way identities and issues have been politicized by society. Doing all of this while attempting to find the balance between the traditional "HR's role is to protect the business" and the human "without happy, engaged, employees there is no business." Even if that sometimes takes reminding fellow HR practitioners to keep the "Human" in "Human Resources" and that rebranding to "People Team" or "People Operations" won't disguise a lack of humanity

What words of advice and encouragement would you give to someone just starting out in HR?

You spend a lot of your career taking care of employees, make sure you carve out time to take care of yourself by blocking off time on your calendar for focus time or just to take a break during particularly stressful days. Also, remember why you wanted to being an HR professional to begin with, don't lose sight of your motivation.
