Deanna Baumgardner started Employers Advantage LLC in August of 2010 to provide small businesses with a viable option for Human Resources support that fits the specific needs of a small business and non-profits. As a small business owner herself, she understands the impact that having the right resources and support can have on the company and the employees. The Employers Advantage team supports business of all sizes across the US in a variety of HR capacities. Prior to starting Employers Advantage LLC, Deanna’s Human Resources experience comes from being in Corporate Human Resource roles of progressive responsibility over the life of her career. Deanna is a Human Resources business partner with a solid generalist background and extensive experience in creating and establishing the Human Resources function for an organization. She has proven successful in her field by providing solid Human Resources guidance and leadership in various industries, for both small and large organizations. Her industry experience includes, but not limited to, commercial & residential construction, real estate development, architecture & engineering, professional services, non-profit, start-ups, hospitality, as well as distribution & manufacturing. Deanna graduated from Florida Gulf Coast University with a bachelor’s degree in Human Resources Management and became a Certified Professional in Human Resources (PHR) shortly thereafter. She has served a term on the HR Advisory Counsel for the Mecklenburg County Board of County Commissioners, was the Treasurer of LKNHR her local SHRM chapter and previously served on the Board of the Charlotte non-profit, Project Outpour. Deanna has her SHRM-CP certification is also certified in Mental Health First Aid, qualifying her to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental illnesses in the workplace.

What words of advice and encouragement would you give to someone just starting out in HR?

This is such a great time in your career because your mind and your eyes are wide open to the possibilities and my advice is to remember that and try not to lose that "fire" as you move through your HR career. Keeping an open mind throughout your career opens you up to so much opportunity to spark change, support individuals in the workplace and be a leader in your field.
