Ashley Perryman is the current Vice President of Global Human Resources at Spiceworks Ziff Davis. Her background has been in SaaS, MarTech, BioTech and EdTech organizations. Ashley mentors Human Resources Professionals through the local Austin SHRM chapter, coaches women in the Women initiative for Entrepreneurship & Leadership Development at University of Texas at Austin, and serves on the Texas Diversity Council. Ashley has served as an active member with her local professional associations including Association for Talent Development, the local Austin Prospanica chapter, and the Young Hispanic Professional Association of Austin.
What words of advice and encouragement would you give to someone just starting out in HR?
Working in HR is a rewarding and fulfilling job as you're in the thick of the company's infrastructure and your work has an immediate & direct impact on the business' success. In this function, you have so much room to explore and so many ways to get involved - I encourage new HR professionals to check out each unique HR discipline to see how each segment works, impacts the business, and provides you with the opportunity to do meaningful & fulfilling work. Once you find your groove, work to become excellent in it. You need to learn to become great at proving business value of your work, own the numbers/data and shepherd solutions. Through this work, you will become an in-demand HR professional.
